Someone had thrown him away, but kind people in a village contacted us and kept him safe themselves. He was calm when we came for him, and in his eyes we saw relief.
His name is a nod to the singer Blake Shelton, and to the kind people who sheltered him at their home before we came for him.

Someone had thrown him away when he was only a puppy. A few weeks before we met him, some kind people in a village saw him abandoned and in distress. They contacted us, rescued him on their own and sheltered him in their home. The road to him was long, but we did not give up until we found him.
The people who had been caring for him even came out in their car to show us the right way to their village. At the end of that long road, there he was. He was very calm, and it was clear they had fed him well. Kindness like theirs restored our faith in people.
He was about two months old, and he loved being around people. When we set off, he stayed close to us in the car and let us touch him. Then we looked into his eyes. What we saw there was relief, and a sense of calm.
Our first stop was the vet. He looked so small on the steel table, yet he was curious and wanted to explore. We treated him for everything he needed, and only when it was all over, a little sleepy at last, did we take him home.
His first proper meal with us came next, and he was so hungry that he ate every last bite. Then it was time for a bath. We held him on his back under the tap, a position he seemed to love. For a puppy someone had thrown away, lying like that in our hands seemed a sign that he had begun to trust us.
All cleaned up, he was soft and fluffy. The people in the village had kept him safe until we came down that long road for him, and from there it was our turn to look after him. When we filmed his story, we were looking for a family for him, and a home of his own.
