We went looking for several abandoned dogs and found only him, screaming alone in a corner of an empty building. On the long drive that followed, he finally relaxed enough to cuddle.
His name is a nod to the singer Elton John, for the screams that led us to him in an abandoned building.

It was already a rough day when the emergency call came. Several dogs had been abandoned somewhere far from us, and someone had posted them on social media. We set out all the same, and after a long road we reached the derelict buildings where they had last been seen.
The place was eerie, and we went in carefully, moving from room to room. Twice we thought we heard something, and each time the rooms were empty. We kept searching, still hoping that the dogs were somewhere in those buildings. For a while, we found nothing.
Then we heard screams. We called out and went in circles, trying to follow the sound, until we came to a bare room and found him there, a puppy sitting in the corner with his face to the wall. He was alone and terribly scared, and he kept screaming.
We carried him out of that building in our arms. We could not find the other dogs, and all we could do was hope that they were safe. What mattered was that he was with us now, and that from here on, things would get better for him.
Back at the car, we saw how hungry he was. He finished his meal while we got ready to travel, and with his belly full, we set off again. Somewhere along the way, he finally relaxed. He settled on a lap, no longer afraid to cuddle.
Night had fallen by the time we reached the vet, and the first thing we heard there was that all would be well. After a patient wait, we stayed with him through every exam, and by the time the last one was done, we knew he was fine.
When we got home, he stopped short of the door, too scared to come in. We had a plan, though. We set a bowl of food by the doorway. He liked it, and at last he stepped inside. After a proper dinner on a blue blanket, he lay down and let us rub his belly.
Next came a bath, and he liked the shower. A little pampering followed, and afterwards he fell fast asleep on the blue blanket. The puppy we had found screaming in a corner of an abandoned building was quiet now. When we filmed his story, we were looking for a family for Yelton John.
