After a massive rainstorm, we found her hiding under an abandoned bus stop, soaking wet and frightened of us. In the warm car she ate from our hands, and at last she stopped shivering.
Her name is a nod to the actress Emma Stone, and to the massive rainstorm that left her soaking wet under a bus stop.

After a massive rainstorm, we heard about a puppy near an abandoned bus stop, 192 miles (310 km) away. We set off at once. The road was not easy, and it took us a long time to get there, until finally the bus stop came into view by the roadside.
We found her hiding under it, soaking wet. She did not know who we were, and she was quite frightened of us. There, too, we saw a toy, a water bottle and traces of food, so people living nearby had been taking some care of her. It reminded us that there are still good people out there.
She was shivering, so we picked her up, took her toy as well and went straight to the car. She was probably less than two months old and very fragile, and we handled her gently. Luckily, we had a blanket to dry her off and keep her warmer, and once she was settled in her seat, we turned the heat all the way up.
Even so, she kept shivering. We did not know when she had last eaten, so we offered her the food we had left, and although she would not touch water, she ate every bit of it from our hands. She was still hungry, but that was all we had. We kept the car warm, and at last she stopped shivering.
On the way back, though, bad news reached us. The locals near the bus stop had told us there were three puppies, so we had sent another search party to look for the other two. Her sister had been hit by a car, and her other sibling was nowhere to be found. Her siblings were gone, but she was no longer alone.
It was very late when we got back, and she was asleep. She was about the size of one of our feet, and by now she was very calm around us. In the shower she was curious, and she finally drank a little water. We washed her twice, but she had been out in the rain for so long that she was already almost clean, and we found no fleas, which was a good sign.
By the end of the bath she had started to growl. We dried her off, but she still needed warming up, and as we kept drying her, we heard her stomach. In the car there had been nothing more to give her. This time a bowl of food was waiting, and she put her head straight into it.
Then came a visit to the vet, who checked her over, weighed her and gave her a paste against parasites. Afterward there was yogurt, and then the sofa. The puppy we had found soaking wet under an abandoned bus stop was now sitting up on its cushions, dry and fed. When we filmed her story, we were looking for a family for Emma Storm.
