Left behind and alone, she was hiding under trash by a remote road when we found her one evening. She was a little afraid of us at first, and then her tail began to wag.
Her name is a nod to the singer Taylor Swift, for the way she started wagging her tail when we found her.

She had been left behind, and she was completely alone. All we had was a short report of a stray puppy somewhere off the main roads. It was already evening, we knew almost nothing about her, and the road that led there soon turned into difficult terrain. We went to find her all the same.
Once we were in the area, we searched the roadside closely in the evening light, until we saw something small in the distance on the empty road. It was her. When we reached her, she was hiding under the trash at the edge of the road, not much of a hiding place for a puppy on her own.
At first she was a little afraid of us. Then, after a pause, her tail began to wag, and the whole mood of the evening changed. Soon she was pressing her face into our hand, and in that moment she was a very happy puppy.
In the car, the first thing she needed was water. We set a bowl on the seat, and she drank what we believe was the first fresh water of her life. Her first proper meal followed, and by the time we turned for home, her belly was full.
When we finally got her home, she was ready to sleep. Sleep had to wait a little longer, though. First came a bath in the sink, and we held her there, soaked through, while we worked the shampoo into her coat. Only then did her first day with us come to an end.
Our next stop was the vet. We knew very little about her life before that evening, and the examination would tell us more. The news was reassuring: her weight was good, and she was healthy overall. Whatever she had been through on her own, she had come through it well.
Back at home, we learned that she loved belly rubs. She lay on her back on the rug, paws in the air, while we rubbed her belly. For a puppy we had found hiding under trash by the road, lying there with her belly up showed how much she had come to trust us.
She had a new favorite toy by then, and she could rest on a soft rug with it close by. When we filmed her story, we were looking for a family for Tailor Swift, one that would make sure she was never left behind again.
