He had lost his mom, and we found him pressed in beside the tire of a car, looking so sad. Then we looked into his eyes, and it was as if he knew we had come to help.
His name is a nod to the actor Al Pacino, and to how small he was.

A small puppy had lost his mom, and we received an emergency call about him. Our journey to find him started early in the morning. On the way we passed many dogs, some with homes and some without, and we stopped long enough to give them food. Then we moved on, because he was still out there.
When we finally reached the place, we heard very faint sounds, but we could not tell where they were coming from. We looked more closely and began to think he must be under a car. Closer and closer we moved, until we saw a small dark shape pressed in beside the tire. We had found him.
We got him out of there safely, and for the first time we could see him properly. He was dirty and very small in our hands, and he looked so sad. Then we looked into his eyes. It was as if he already knew we had come to help.
First we gave him food and water, then searched the area to see whether there were any others. We did not know why he had been left there, or even what his name was. He grew sleepy, but the sadness in his eyes was still there when we started the long journey home. Only when we were almost there did he begin to look a little better, and at last he fell asleep.
At home we could see just how dirty he was, so before anything else he needed a bath. As far as we know, it was the first of his life, and yet he loved it. When he was dry, it was clear how tiny he really was.
Then another dog, Arra, came over to meet him, and the two of them were nose to nose. After that, he began to change. He grew a lot more relaxed, and a lot more trusting. We filled his belly and gave him a little time to play, but what he loved most was simply being cuddled.
Later we took him to the vet. He had never been to one before, and naturally he was scared as he was set on the scales and the vet looked into his mouth. Then the vet gave us the news we had been waiting for. He was healthy.
As we got ready to leave the vet, he settled into our arms. It had not been so scary after all, and we planned to vaccinate him the following week. He had come a long way from the dark gap beside a car tire where we had found him. When we filmed his story, we were looking for a family for Small Pacino.
