Less than four months old, she had been caged under a shopping cart in a forest area and left without food or water. She was sad and wary at first, but she accepted us.
Her name is a nod to the singer Carrie Underwood, and to the shopping cart we found her under.

A puppy had been abused and locked in a cage. That was the message that reached us, and we set off at once. The drive was about 62 miles (100 km), and heavy traffic made it slow going. When we got there, we were told she was somewhere in the forest nearby, and nothing had prepared us for what we would find.
So we searched, until at last we found her. We could hardly believe what we saw. Someone had dumped her in the dry grass and put a shopping cart on top of her, so that its bars held her in like a cage. She had been left with no food and no water.
The people nearby told us how it had happened. She had been a stray around a large shopping mall, and because the staff did not want her near it, they took her out to the forest and pushed the cart down on top of her. Later that day, we found the people who had done it. They told us it was so that passersby would notice her, and to protect her from other dogs.
Once we were back at the car, we gave her food and water right away. She was uneasy, though, and very cautious about eating with us around. It was not a good sign, since it could point to health problems. Only when we left her alone did she begin to eat, slowly, until half the bowl was gone.
Then we wanted to get away from there as soon as we could. She was less than four months old and must have been through a lot, yet in the car she behaved like a very social dog and even made some new friends. She was sad. But she accepted us, and she let her chin rest in our hand.
Now she needed a vet and a wash, and the wash came first, so we took her to our home, where she followed us around as if she had been trained. In the shower she finally showed signs of thirst, and although she was very dirty and we had to be gentle with her, she stayed calm throughout, without a single bark or growl. Once she was dry, she was hungry too. At the car she had barely eaten while we watched, but now she ate her dinner with her head deep in the bowl.
Later we took her to the vet. She was eating now, but we still wanted her looked over properly. She weighed 8.8 pounds (4 kg), and after the checks she was given a treatment against parasites. By the end of the visit, she was curious about everything around her.
Afterward there was time for games. She played fetch and hide and seek, and when the games were over, she settled on a blanket and fell asleep, a long way from the shopping cart in the dry grass. When we filmed her story, we were looking for a family for Carrie Undercart.
